A Taipei city stay and an itinerary with intercity train journeys create different data needs. Consider the moments when you will open maps and bookings while moving, not only time spent on hotel Wi-Fi.
1. List destinations and transport days
Distinguish a Taipei-based visit from travel to places such as Taichung, Tainan or Kaohsiung. List map, transport, booking and messaging apps, then allow for days spent moving between places.
Check that Taiwan is explicitly included in coverage. If the itinerary also includes Hong Kong or another stop, check it separately rather than assuming a Taiwan plan covers it.
2. Give public Wi-Fi a defined role
Taiwan’s iTaiwan public Wi-Fi service describes access at designated locations including government facilities. Check the official information for locations and how to connect.
Public hotspots do not mean continuous coverage while walking or traveling. Decide which larger downloads can use Wi-Fi and which activities need mobile data on the move.
3. Include photos, video and sharing
Photo backups and video autoplay can add to data consumption beyond deliberate uploads. Check whether activities usually performed on Wi-Fi at home could use mobile data on the trip.
If you will share with family or a laptop, review tethering permission and separate sharing limits. Compare balance-checking and top-up options alongside the allowance.
4. Save the essentials before departure
Save accommodation addresses, station names, booking screens and setup instructions. If mobile data does not connect, review the chosen line, validity and coverage in order.
