Screen names and steps vary by device, operating system and provider. This guide explains the overall process and links to official instructions. Also read the setup instructions supplied with your plan.
1. Prepare before departure
Arrange a stable internet connection and save the seller’s instructions. Read the plan’s activation conditions before starting. If installing the eSIM starts its validity period, choose your installation time carefully.
If setup uses a QR code, display it on a second screen or check whether the provider supports another installation method. QR codes and activation details can enable access to the line: do not publish or share them with others.
2. Settings to check on iPhone
In Settings, open Cellular or Mobile Data and follow the provider’s instructions to add an eSIM. Use the QR code, app or other method specified by the seller. Options vary by iOS version, so refer to Apple’s official steps.
Give the new line a clear name, such as “Travel,” to distinguish it from your usual line. On arrival, check which line is selected for mobile data. If you keep your home line active, check its roaming charges too.
3. Settings to check on Android
On Google Pixel phones, start with SIMs under Network & internet. Add a SIM and follow the on-screen and carrier instructions. Other Android manufacturers may use different menus and steps.
After adding the line, check which SIM is selected for mobile data, calls and SMS. Review automatic data switching so the phone does not unexpectedly use a different line.
4. If you cannot connect on arrival
Check that the travel line is enabled and selected for mobile data. Configure data roaming or the APN only as instructed by the seller. Your home line does not necessarily need the same settings.
If the problem continues, note the error, phone model, OS version and location, then contact the seller’s support team. Some plans cannot be reinstalled, so do not delete the eSIM unless support tells you to.
